India has so far reported 1,29,539 US cases according to data from state governments. Today’s death toll was reported at 4 p.m. 144, the seventh straight day, where more than 130 people have succumbed to the infection, bringing the total toll to 3,870.
The rise in cases on Saturday even came as Maharashtra reported a slight drop in the number of 2,608, down from 2,940 on Friday. Several states that are not among the hardest hit reported a record bump, including Karnataka (216) and Uttarakhand (92).
At the same time, the number remained high in Tamil Nadu (759 new cases), Delhi (591), Madhya Pradesh (282, including 75 from Indore reported around midnight), Rajasthan (248), UP (282) and Bihar (228).
As many as 27 states reported on corona cases during the day, an indication of the spread of the virus in the country. These included the first positive covid case found in Sikkim, the only state / UT that had so far been free of the virus.
For the seventh consecutive day, Maharashtra went on to report over 2,000 cases a day. On Saturday, it added 2,608 cases, its second-highest addition on a day when Mumbai accounted for 1,566 cases. The total cases in the state on Saturday were 47,190, of which Mumbai’s caseload stood at 28,634.
The state reported 60 deaths on Saturday, 42 of which occurred within the last 24 hours – 40 in Mumbai – and the remaining 18 were deaths from the last 15 days. The total deaths in the state as of Saturday were 1,577.
