Giving the kids healthy snacks doesn’t end at the 4 walls of the home. Since they spend most of the day on a week at school, it is important that the snacks they eat are as healthy as the ones you give them at home.
Snacks are certainly not marketable for children. Get them to eat their plate of vegetables for dinner, and definitely promise them their favorite snack choice and use it as bait. Even adults have a strong fondness for snacks, but kids definitely take the top spot.
Below is a list of healthy snacks for kids that you can put in their lunch boxes. These healthy snack options are relatively easy to find in your favorite supermarket.
1. East. No one can ever go wrong with cheese. Kids love it, especially if it is shaped into fun shapes. Some kids even get their cup of vegetables provided the melted cheese is spread all over.
Buy low salt cheese from your favorite grocery store so your kids get the dose of protein and calcium they need. Cheese is a great alternative for kids who simply do not love drinking milk (unless it is chocolate flavor). Get creative with cheese by cutting it into fun cubic shapes and putting it on a stick alternating with cubes of fruits like apples, bananas, pineapples or grapes. You have instant cheese and fruit kabobs.
2. Slices of fruit. Having a container filled with slices of fruit can stink when your child opens it for recess. Organic fruits are healthy, yes, but it can easily rot, especially if the humidity is high. So instead of cutting fresh fruits and throwing it all together in a container, why not have a packet of sliced fruits instead?
Today, there are a lot of sliced fruits such as sliced apples, sliced mangoes and sliced kiwis, which you can buy directly from the supermarket. These slices of fruit are usually dried already, so it is quite similar to chips. With a package of sliced fruits for snacks, it can help children develop a natural affinity for fruits. While there are kids who just love to feast on fruits, there are a handful of them who simply don’t, and a small dose of creativity can go a long way if you want them to love fruit. Buy packages of slices of fruit that they can germinate during the day. You never go wrong with it.
3. Vegetables with dips. The best vegetables to eat are the ones that are raw. They say steamy vegetables lose their nutrients, which is why eating raw vegetables is the best way to get all of its vitamins. In order not to get the experience of eating vegetables better, why not include dips in your child’s lunch box? Cut carrots, celery, cucumber and zucchini into sticks. Include dips like ranch, thousand island, hummus or guacamole on the side. While it is early to introduce low-fat dips and attire to the kids, it would not actually hurt to do so as the store bought dips and dressings are very cholesterol and calories.
