The top three foods that you probably do not eat enough of are leafy vegetables, sea vegetables and flaxseeds.
Now leafy vegetables are the foods most lacking in our modern diets and they are super healthy and really important. Not only are they very high in fiber that most of us don’t get enough of, but these green vegetables offer a lot of minerals that we need, like calcium and iron, and vitamins like A, C and K. And, chlorophyll. Which, if you think about it, really caught sunlight. The way green vegetables turn sunlight through photosynthesis into the beautiful green color. It really gives you great energy.
Now, vegetables are another food you probably do not eat. Now, if you have sushi, you’ve probably had nori paper wrapping these nori rolls, but there are hundreds of different edible sea vegetables. And what they deliver is amazing. It is the most nutritious dense food on the planet. They give you trace elements that you may be missing, even from a very healthy diet. They also have iodine in them, which can be helpful in some thyroid conditions. And they will offer you things like iron and calcium and protein.
So if you are not very familiar with how to use sea vegetables, there are some really easy ways to use it. In the health food store you can get sea vegetables that are already in small shakes. They are pulverized into a powder. It’s like a little spice grater. You can sprinkle it on anything you eat. I put it in soups. I sprinkle it on my greens, on my salads and in my sandwich. I even put it in my son’s peanut butter and jelly sandwich between layers so he goes to school with an extra hit of minerals.
And the last food you probably won’t eat is flaxseed. Now flax seeds are a great source of these Omega-3 oils, which we need more for their anti-inflammatory benefits and to protect your brain. They are also a great source of fiber, which again we will not get enough of. So go ahead and grind your flax seeds and sprinkle them on your food all day. Very easy way to get your fiber and your Omega-3s.
